My last real night in NYC…..had to have one last hurrah!  Eric and Olivia had been saying that we NEED to check out one of NYC’s great rooftop bars/clubs..so we decided on one close by on 5th Avenue called 230 Fifth.  How exciting!!

Calamari, Oyster Omelet (East coast oysters, cilantro, chili vinegar & bean sprouts), Lamb Tea Sandwiches (Braised pulled lamb shoulder, sweet chili sauce, vietnamese mint, raisins, aioli).  According to Eric, these are very Malaysian inspired snacks 😉

Munchies!!!

The rooftop club was so much fun!!!!  Great view of the city, low wooden benches and tables, casual atmosphere, fresh air, lots of chatter and laughter everywhere, palm treems and the big, open  night sky above us.  I had my amazing new-found friends around me, no worries, all smiles, and it was just a wonderful night

Mmmmmmmmmm~~~!!!!  Finally Crumbs Bake Shop opened on Park Avenue!  Best part is that it’s just a block down from Franchia~  Whenever I walk by it’s packed with a line going out to door…. I finally found a day where it wasn’t as busy.

Rows and rows of delicious, interesting cupcakes!  I got the special of the month Margarita Cupcake.  Loved the lime frosting.  It was kind of grainy like the sugar rim on a margarita.  Yummy cupcake~~!!  Totally satisfied my sweet tooth

April 10th, 2011.   Sunday Brunch at Bar Americain

Following a tearful reunion (well, tearful on my part) the night before with Daddy we met up in the city for some church at Times Square Church and then headed over to grab some brunch at Bar Americain, Celebrity Chef Bobby Flay’s restaurant in Times Square.

The restaurant is by no means flashy or particularly modern.  It’s almost like a hotel restaurant.  Throwback banquet style hall with warm colors.  We made ourselves right at home and started looking over the menu.

Absolutely loved the bread basket!  So much variety….and there was even corn bread!!  I also appreciated that it came with both butter and jam 😀

Appetizer: Boston Lettuce, Bacon, Poached Egg, Buttermilk-Blue Cheese DressingUgh, I was so in love with how the poached egg just oozed out this nice buttery yolk to bind the super tender and buttery lettuce with the bacon and egg whites.  And that absolute perfect salty, creamy, pungent dressing….great way to open the meal!

Dad and I think alike – we both ended up wanting the Smoked Chicken Pot Pie with Sweet Potato Biscuit Crust.  But of course, I wanted variety, so I let Daddy have it.  I love pot pie for the wonderful harmony of vegetables and chicken in a hearty cream and of course the flakey delicious crust!  The idea of a sweet potato crust was just too lovely!  However, this dish did not live up to expectations.  The veggies were not cooked enough to properly harmonize together, there was a a surprising lack of flavor and I didn’t like the crust.  It really was just “meh”.

I ended up being quite happy with my choice of Shrimp & Grits with Bacon, Scallions and Garlic.  The shrimp were perfectly cooked still retaining that slight, fresh “crunch”, the grits were perfectly seasoned and creamy and seriously, how can you go wrong with bacon?  The salty savory-ness of it tied everything together for a really delicious mouthful!  Yum!

In retrospect I wish I’d ordered something more representative of Chef Flay and his big bold flavors and signature ingredients, but I still think we had a pretty satisfying meal and shared a nice relaxed time at the restaurant.  The service was kind and not rushed, the atmosphere was busy but relaxed and everything was nice and clean 🙂

A perfectly beautiful morning!  I arrived in Midtown a little early so I was able to grab a light breakfast of Chocolate Croissant and a  Latte at Pret-a-Manger on Park Avenue and E 32nd Street.  Happy me~

After a 10~12 hour work day we just wanna get out of work and eat something!  With Min Obba there’s no hesitation about it.  His philosophy: “If you need to eat, then eat!  Nothing worse than feeling like a beggar after a long day of work!”  We love to eat 😉

Well, K-Town in Midtown NYC is perfect for a late night dinner because there are always places that are open til late and even places like, BCD Tofu House, that are open 24 hours!  We decided on HaruHana.

Chicken Breast Salad: Tender seasoned chicken breast atop some greens with a creamy sauce/dressing.  Not overly complicated or impressive, but it’s good to eat

We ate a bunch of other stuff as well, but…we were too busy eating 🙂

After a long work day Eric and i hopped over to Koryodang for some late night coffee, cake & chat! It was a well deserved pat on the back after a long hard day, plus it was fun to bond with my new work dongseng, Eric~~!

Eric had a Mocha Cake with his Iced Coffee.

In all honesty, we don’t really like the coffee here.  It’s not really all that good.  But you don’t have a lot of options for late night cake & coffee in Midtown’s Koreatown past 11:30pm…so, hey, we gotta make do!
