After a lovely service at Coastal Church downtown Robert & I took advantage of the easy Sunday morning with a walk around Coal Harbour. With a view like this, how can you get tired of downtown?

We figured the best way to send him back off to beautiful SoCal was to recreate our first final meal with a meal at Earl’s and then Bubble Tea for the drive to the airport. Might as well make more memories on a proven thing!

Robert did not deviate from his original final meal and went with the Sirloin and Mashed Potato accompanied by a Bourbon Mushroom Demi Glace.

I went the seasonal route with a juicy Halibut topped with a Warm Tomato Salad complete with a side of Corn and Roasted zucchini topped with Feta and a mini casserole of smashed crispy Garlic Yukon Potatoes with Sour Cream & Chives. Super moist fish, I loved all my sides, and was super satisfied.

Thanks, Earl’s for a delicious Sunday lunch!

Dinner at The Keg (Coquitlam)

August 23rd, 2012. Dinner at The Keg

With Yire going to New York for a few weeks and us not knowing how long she’d be staying with us we figured we’d been pretty neglecting housemates for the last couple months, what with work being so crazy.  Also, Henry was only up for a few days so we decided to all go out for a treat and have dinner at The Keg!  What better way to ease the soul than to break bread over hunks of red meat 😉

Really, The Keg, hands down, has perhaps my favorite bread starter!  Large, warm, super soft and fluffy on the inside with a crispy but thin outer crust..how do they get it right all the time?

And Eunice insisted we should get the Mushroom Neptune as well.  No arm twisting required here: even though I am not a fan of mushrooms if it comes stuffed with crab and cream cheese and smothered in hot butter and cheese I won’t say no!

What’s a dinner party without a cocktail or 2?  The Rosemary Greyhound sounded too good to pass up: Absolute Vodka, housemade rosemary syrup, and freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice.  This cocktail tasted like a classic drink with a fresh take.  Aromatic, fresh, and calm, I really enjoyed it 🙂

At The Keg I always like to go with the thick Baseball Top Sirloin.  I got the rice pilaf and veg on the side.  Delicious?  Check.  Filling? Double Check!

The spread ;D  Jealous much?  Yummy dinner, service from a young, fresh waiter with an accent we couldn’t place and good times 🙂

May 6th, 2012. Steak for Lunch at Earls Downtown

Despite being a gloriously sunny day the one downer was that my new friend Robert was flying back home to California today 😥  His contract work here done it was time to pack up and go.  Since I volunteered to drive him to the airport he offered to buy me lunch!

Time was kind of of the essence, so we just walked down from his downtown apartment on Nelson to the nearby Earls to catch a bite.  I wasn’t sure what to order…but Robert insisted we go for steaks…so, what the heck, let’s do it!!  He had some house red to pair while I settled for water with a slice of lime.

I went for my usual staple, the Steak Frites.  It’s a great measure of a restaurant’s standards to go for something as simple as a chunk of beef and plain fries.  This one was a great one!  Super tender beef seasoned very well, cooked great and with just the right amount of resting time to allow for the right amount of juice to come out of the steak.  The fries were also clean, not greasy and seasoned well.  Lots of times it’s the simple dishes that really shine.

Robert went a bolder route and had the Bourbon Mushroom 7 oz Certified Angus Beef Top Sirloin (crimini and button mushrooms, bourbon demi glace, Yukon Gold garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables).  The plate was vibrant with color!  The sauce was bold and rich, the mushroom added a lot of flavor and the steak was cooked well.  Everything looked great and he cleaned the plate good 😉

November 5th, 2010. St. Augustine’s Bar on Commercial

St. Augustine's Brew Bar & Kitchen on Commercial Drive

After an exhilerating night at the Passion World Tour we were famished!! Time to find some eats in the middle of the night..!  It was way too packed downtown so we took the skytrain back about half-way to Commercial Drive where we found a place that was open and could accomodate our large group.

We proudly showed off our Passion wristbands and enjoyed the Movember mustaches that came with each of our drink coasters!

–>I had the Steak Bites.  Wow.  These were seasoned and flash fried to perfection!  The jalapenos lent a great kick and the steak bites had the perfect illusion of being crispy on the outside while still beinf incredibly tender and juicy.  Loved these!  The accompanying chipotle aioli was great to pair it with.
