죽향 차문화원 (Jook Hyang Traditional Tea Culture Centre) is a little oasis in the condensed city area of Jinju.

It’s a multiple story building with one floor being a gallery and another floor designated as a cozy tea room where a resident tea master presides over tea ceremonies and educates patrons on the ways of tea and tea ware.

After looking through Mom’s friend’s photo exhibit we were treated to an elegant, cozy tea time in the tea room. Ever since working at Franchia I’ve had an even higher appreciation and love for tea and the art of tea.

The tea master brewed for us a pot of tea special to the centre called 죽향미인 (Jook Hyang Beauty).

The tea leaves are from nearby Mount Jiri and it’s a delicate tea.  Honestly, I can’t really describe distinct nuances of the tea…but it’s supposed to be good for you 😉

There were so many gorgeous tea pots & tea ware.

We were also served some delicious treats that were so natural, pure, and just delicious. Each of the snacks were delicately made and while fragrant still subtle in flavor so as not to compete with the tea.

We started off with some Sweet Red Bean Porridge.  Not too thick, not too thin, with the natural sweetness of the red bean shining through.

We also had some Pan Fried Rice Cakes.  I love how the exterior gets this great thin crust and then when you bite in it’s super soft and chewy!  Dip them in the beautiful pot of honey that came with it and it’s divine!

The Candied Ginger was also such a wonderful treat.  Without being too acrid with still a slight and pleasant tang playing with the delicious sweetness.  Yummy!  Not to mention so incredibly beautiful!

We also were served this Bean Paste Jelly.  Subtle in taste, but great texture.  Simply beautiful!

Mom had to go back home to teach, but I wanted to make use of the afternoon and explore the immediate neighborhood a bit more. Besides, with the slight jet-lag sleeping again now would just keep messing up my sleep-cycle!

I found this very cute little rice cake house.

I’m sure the employees were getting suspicious of this girl walking in and trying to be sneaky about taking pictures….lol!

Galleria (Jinju)

Mom and I stuffed ourselves full at lunch….but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to go downstairs and look at some more food!

In Korean department stores the bottom most floor is for food. There are always delicious snacks, banchan and foods everywhere you turn. And in a fancy department store like Galleria..well, there’s just a multitude of pretty yummies!

I kinda regret not picking up some of these delicious looking waffles…!

But of course I couldn’t just pass up on the gigantic dumplings!  One of the things I miss most about Korea are these bigger-than-your-fist dumplings with a thin, almost bread-like skin and full of piping hot tofu, veggie, pork filling.  Of course I had to take one of these babies home 🙂

After a nice tour around a bit of downtown Jinju we headed back to Galleria for some lunch. Korean sushi seemed like a good idea, so we headed in to California.

The owner must have had exposure to North American style sushi, because looking at the menu I could have thought I was back in Vancouver!

I wanted some soup, so Mom and I shared an Udon.

And even though it was really going a bit far…we shared a roll as well.  Can’t remember what kind..only that we were extremely full!
