April 9th, 2013.  Pizza Buffet Pig Out!

When was the last time you’ve done all you can eat pizza?  That’s right, probably not in a long time 😉  We’d seen this sign come up recently and being the Pizza Hut die-hards that we are it didn’t take any arm twisting on my part to convince Eunice to come with me 😉  Besides, $7.00 for all you can eat?  Best deal in town!

Pizza of our childhood, deliciously crispy soft crust, super hot ooey-gooey satisfaction.  And yeah, even the salad bar, plain as it is, holds a sentimental place in our hearts and our stomaches!

Howard came along for the ride, but obviously he is not as consummate as me and my sister.  I mean, come on, you are talking to some pizza fanatics 😉

We even ordered a pitcher of Coke.  Because even though neither of us are huge pop drinkers when it comes to Pizza Hut we know that nothing tastes better than  a tall icy cup of Coke ;D

The obligatory salad.

We attacked that pizza buffet like nobody’s business!  We actually managed to power through quite a good amount of pizza and by the time we threw in the towel we were extremely happily stuffed and ready to pass the heck out!

Sure, artisinal pizzas, thin crust this and fresh herbs that are all the rage.  But Pizza Hut is in a league of it’s own.  Unapologetically rich and hearty and the cheese is piled on, it’s just sooooooo good~~~!!

Don’t try to get in the way of us Choi’s and pizza.  It won’t be pretty and we won’t be nice ;D

Campagnolo on Main

May 24th, 2012. Campagnolo Group Dinner

Nearly impromptu meet-up with some friends for an early-ish dinner at Campagnolo. Since my first experience last year I’ve loved this small, casual, high-in-demand, delicious place tucked away on the outskirts under the eaves of Main Street. With a handful of foodies mixed into the group we made a flurry of selections and waited for the food to arrive.  First up on our side of the table were the Tonarelli alle Vongole, sawmll bay clams in a chili, garlic and parsley broth.  Juicy clams, flavorful broth, warm and savory.  Good way to start a meal!

It’s a good thing food & drink connoisseur Anita (la Petite Foodie) was at dinner because as soon as the server mentioned they had fresh Burrata on hand she literally JUMPED on it saying that it was a no-brainer-must-order 😉  Thinly pulled mozzarella wrapped around butter (or cream) this ball of delight came with a drizzle of olive oil, cracked pepper, bresh basil leaves and crostini.  Can I just say….. foodgasm????!!!  Creamy, light and subtle, perfect to just bite into little by little and savor and it’s also completely spreadable.  This….this was a real eye-opener.  LOVE IT!!

Another appetizer we ordered was the Eggplant.  I don’t quite remmeber, but I believe it was sheets of roasted and marinated eggplants under an herb-y tomato sauce with crispy shards of crostini and celery slices on top with a healthy drizzle of olive oil.  Another favorite of all of us for being just the perfect balance of savory-sweet vegetables, fragrant and punchy and a good dose of richness.  Yum!

The special main dish of the day was the Spot Prawn Spaghetti!  There was NO WAY we weren’t ordering this!  Especially since Spot Prawn season was just coming to a close…can’t miss out on fresh sweet spot prawns!  I know I’ve written about my love for spot prawns and this dish was no exeption….BOMB ASS SPAGHETTI!  Super rich, very fresh and prawns aplenty!  It was glorious 😀

Of course we can’t come to Campagnolo and not have Pizza.  I can’t quite remember this one but the bread was thin and perfectly soft and crispy at the same time, it was a white pizza with salty notes from the olives and spicy savory from the thin cut pepperoni and we definitly added a good amount of parmigiano reggiano all over 😉  Soooooooo yum!!!

Stomaches full, smiles all around: anoter successful group dinner for the books 😀

Panago is my usual go-to for pizza.  Ahhhhh….the aroma of pizza filling up my car, permeating throughout the elevator…and finally getting through my door and just scarfing it down!  Yum~!

Nothing like hot pizza to make your night 😉

September 16th, 2011. Dinner at Campagnolo~!

Special Situations Dan was back in town for some more business, which means…more amazing eats!!  For day 1 we wanted to do some Italian, so I suggested one of Vancouver’s most talked about restaurant: Campagnolo!  They don’t take reservations, and there’s always a wait..but hey, as foodies, we can handle it

 campagnolo

We were scrunched up at the doorway with other hopeful diners.  The floor manager was quite gracious and handed us all menus to look at while waiting and trried to keep the mood light so we could survive.  Let me tell you, it’s not easy watching other diners thoroughly drooling over their meals while we watch within close proximity..!

Finally a table!  We got a cozy little spot and made haste ordering some dinner.

Of course, a Negroni to start the weekend off right

Our first appetizer was the Porchetta Tonatto.  Thinly shaved tender, soft pork loin topped with a tuna mayo, freshly chopped parsely, anchovies and capers.  I swear….this is such a rich dish!  I thought the tuna mayo seemed a little odd….but really the combination with everything else just seems so….right!

campagnolo

One of the number 1 recommendations for Campagnolo is the Crispy Ceci, which are deep fried chickpeas, chilies, mint leaves with a dash of citrus.  Well, I have to say, this is a really delicious snack!  Crispy, crunchy, nutty chickpeas with fresh mint and the citrus and chilies wige such a great kick!

campagnolo

Word on the street is that the pizzas here are perhaps some of the best in Vancouver.  Well, we took the test with the classic Margherita: fior di latte mozzerella, tomato and basil.  Absolutely scrumptious!  Light, fresh and flavorful.  Because each ingredient is so good the pure simpleness of the pizza helps each of the flavors shine!

campagnolo

We also had the Taglietelle with a pork ragu topped with basil and pecorino romano cheese.  I have to say: the pasta was cooked to perfection.  I love taglietelle and this one was the perfect shape, cooked just right, and the pork ragu deliciously coated each strand of pasta.  Again, the freshness justified the simplicity of the dish.  Yum!!

So, yeah, Campagnolo was a success!  Simple, delicious, fresh Italian food in a cute little space with friendly service for a really great value.  I definitely recommend this place to anyone!

May 27th, 2011. Delicious Pizza in Edmonton!

I made a stopover for a weekend in Edmonton before heading into Vancouver.  I figured I desereved a mini vacation before getting back into real life and I also wanted to spend some time with Nabil since I’d never really been able to support him in his military career for the last couple years.

He planned for us to have dinner at Famoso Neopolitan Pizzeria, which he claimed to be the best pizza in Edmonton.  Well, I love pizza..so I’ll be the judge of that!  The huge wood-fired bell oven fills the space with an incredibley delicious warmth and aroma of fresh baked dough layered with fresh tomato sauce, meats, herbs, etc.  What a wonderful welcome!  I was in love as soon as I walked in…Let the eating begin!!

They have gelato up at the front of the restaurant..and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to have an Italian float!!  San Pellegrino Limonata and Green Tea Gelato.

Started off with an appetizer of Roasted Kalamata Olives.  Marinated, oven-roasted olives with oregano, feta and spicy olive oil serrved with traingles of toasty bread.  I loooooove olives!! And these were the perfect balance of salty and briney with the great fresh pat of feta.  The spicy olive oil made it even more yummy!

famoso neopolitan pizzeria

We chose..okay, let me backtrack, I chose (hahaha!) the Siciliana.  Italian sausage, Italian ham and baked prosciutto.  Where to start?  The crust was perfection!  Not too thin, not soggy on the bottom, perfect char.  The meats were full of hearty flavor, the cheese had a clean, smooth taste and texture and the pasta sauce was so, so fresh!  I loved that the pizza was filling, yet light, savory and fresh.  What difference fresh ingredients make!

Basil Mojito.  Limoncello liqueur, soda, fresh basil leaves and a lime wedge.  Refreshing!  Cool!

Panna Cotta.  With fresh blueberries and lemon zest.  Oh, the panna cotta was great!!  slippery sliding down the throat and the lemon zest brought that POP to the panna cotta canvas.  The blueberries were ripe and not too tart

A wonderful way to start the weekend in Edmonton!
