Mid-day excursion to Menchies with the bosses!  I have NO idea where in the vast area of Toronto this was, but I remember thinking that GOODNESS for some froyo!

We’d recently gotten one in Vancouver as well, but since I hadn’t tried it yet I was pretty happy that I got to check this out.  I mean, between Pinkberry and Qoola I wondered where this one would fall.

What’s Menchies does is you get to choose your froyo flavor and you also get to add on all the toppings yourself.  It then gets weighed and you pay by weight.  The danger here is that you sometimes can overload and end up paying more than you expected.  It’s the Mongolie Grill Syndrom!

I got the Original Tart frozen yogurt with Lychee Poppin Bobas, Maraschino Cherries, Mochi and Malt Balls

I found that the froyo itself was just a tad icy, I would have liked it to be creamier.  All in all, I prefer the froyo and toppings of Pinkberry more.  It just feels and tastes like better quality…does that make sense?  But you gotta love cute spoons~!

I was due to make a trip down to see Henry.  He’d missed Thanksgiving, so this was a good time to go down to visit him and spend some quality sister-brother time.

We had lunch at Village Sushi, he explained what “trolling” is, showed me around campus, we took lots of pictures, and then he took me to Yogurtland for some froyo!  Like sister like brother, my bro loves some froyo goodness!

They have a lot of delicious flavors going on and more toppings than Pinkberry…and their spoons….SO CUTE!  Pink My Melody spoons….Yes, please~!  I just had to bring a couple home with me 😉

Henry: Hey, Jenn, did you notice the strawberry water?

Me: Yeah..but I’m not really thirsty.

Henry: Well, you should try it anyways.  You can’t really taste the strawberry….but at least you can say that you tried 😉

Me: Mmmm…okay!

(My brother knows that I’m a foodie!)

I got the Red Velvet Cake & Blackberry Lemon Mint flavor froyos with Fruity Pebbles, Mochi, and Mandarin Orange Slices for toppings.  I’d say it’s a bit richer than Pinkberry in terms of texture and taste.  More variety as well….but I still prefer Pinkberry by a hair.  Yogurtland is pretty delish, too!

Ever since I discovered my love for Pinkberry I’d been  experiencing severe cravings.  I thought I’d try to satiate that craving by having some froyo at Qoola at Metrotown.

I added cinnamon toast crunch cereal, mochi and madarine oranges as toppings to the original flavored froyo base.

It was okay, but I found that the foryo itself was quite melty in consistency.

Swirling at Pinkberry in K-Town NYC with Litchi Frozen Yogurt with Blackberries and Honey

I’m not much of an ice cream person.  I love the idea and the multitude of combinations and flavors that such a canvas as ice cream can support..but I’m just not a cold food person.

After months of just walking by Pinkberry nearly every day, hundreds of times I finally walked in to try it.  I’m not gonna lie, the poster up front advertising their new seasonal litchi flavor froyo was one reason why, the cute decor another.

First.  I LOVE the fact that they give you samples to try.  Second, I love that you can get your order as a “bite-sized” portion.  Most of all, I love the incredible freshness of the froyo and the ingredients!  So simple, so refreshing and so delicious!  I love the perfect balance of tart and sweet and the texture and taste of it is so sliky and smooth.  I’m in LOVE~~

Since my first visit I’d been going almost every single night after work…hahahaha!  Tonight I got Chan Young and Eric to come too~!  Deliciousness x 3!!!

Scoop!

September 1, 2010

July 9th, 2010. Scoop!!

I’ve been long over due in getting on the frozen yogurt bandwagon.  Well, the day finally came!  I’d been talking about frozen yogurt pretty much all evening and trying to weasle it into the day.  After a spontaneous and fun hot dog picnic at Kits Beach we hit up Scoop on our way back home.  Score!  All that nagging finally paid off.  Heh!

The shop is totally cute, love it!  It’s got light, wooden tables and chairs (not heavy duty at all!), bright lighting and a glass of peonies (my favorite flowers) at each table.  the floor is 2-tiered with more space on the lower one farther back into the store.  And they have board games!  So I got to scrabble while eating my froyo….yay~!!!

scoop!

The cute, young guys behind the counter really just have one job…getting the frozen yogurt in the cup and receiving payment.  All the toppings are accessible to the customer so we can control how much of what topping we want!  I guess that’s kind of cool because you can portion things out yourself.  This totally worked out for me because I got to pile on the mochi!

scoop!

I asked for the Matcha Green Tea Frozen Yogurt and to that I added a bit of Condensed Milk for sweetness, Cocoa Puffs for crunch and Mochi for the chewy texture and sweetness!  Because really, no asian dessert is complete wthout Mochi 😉

What I like about Scoop is that they have a fair variety of toppings and don’t make things too complicated with a variety of yogurt flavors.  The way I see it with these sorts of froyo places the froyo is the canvas and the toppings are the main attraction.  Of course it could go wrong when it’s self serve (think Mongolie Grill), but it’s the allure of making your own personalized combo that makes it special!  Next time I’d definitely just stick with plain vanilla as opposed to the matcha, but hey, I still enjoyed eating it!
