Eunice requested this morning that I be home tonight to ref for a throwdown!  A cooking throwdown?  I’m there!!

Home Chef Eunice versus Wine Conoisseur Chris: 2 gourmands facing off in an epic test-kitchen battle with their exclusive food-cart idea; a Korean donair aka KONAIR. Lucky for me I was home to be one of their taste-testers!! Yum!!!!

The tension in the condo was heavy with both cooks concentrating hard and trying not to give each other’s secrets away.  Chris was calm in almost an off-handed way while Eunice’s competitive edge was sharpened to the point it could slice someone’s wits in half!

With legit bread from a real donair food supplier as the vehicle both Chris and Eunice marinated their meats in their own special blends.  They wanted to be cheeky with their play on this donair concept, so along with with chicken they were also doing a seperate batch of pork.

Chris’ konair was pumped up with plenty of fresh veg with his pork being spicy and then topping it with a spicy “tatziki” sauce.

Eunice took a less spicy route with her marinade and opted to use 2 sauces on hers: a Korean “hummus” with a spicy kick underneath a cool tatziki sauce.

Who won?  Well, it’s hard to say.  The majority preferred Chris’ spicy Konair, but Eunice’s was more complex in terms of the combination of flavors and layers and I felt had more overall appeal as a street food.    I’d say both could be good options on their menu.  One being more for those who like the heat and the other for more discerning palates.  Stay tuned for more updates on the Konair~
