January 22nd, 2012. Edible Canada at The Market (Dine Out)
There’s little that can beat a delicious meal at a nice location with amazing friends for a great price. Dine Out Vancouver? Many people all over the Greater Vancouver Area appreciate that you make love happen
Tonight’s love-feast was at Edible Canada on Granville Island attached to the Granville Market. I never knew what a cozy little place this was, but I absolutely love it! Modern-cozy-rustic with very down-to-earth friendly service. We felt nice and at home and ready to dig in!
Of course we strategically ordered our meals so that everything on the menu made it to the table. Cuz, you know, we all wanted to try a bit of everything. Nothing’s more boring than a group of people who all order the same thing..!
So, yeah, we were there for the $28 Dine Out set menu, but coincidentally our undercover foodie, Richard, knew someone in the kitchen, so we got a little treat to start off with! Pan Fried Pork Loin & Belly on Crispy Tortilla with Edible Flower & Cilantro. Mmmm~ What a great way to start the meal!
A few people ordered this Hazelmere Farm Potato & Leek Soup topped with Agassiz Hazelnut & Horseradish Foam and Purple Potato Chips. Warm, comforting, and simple. Earthy with flavorful accents!
Ace decided to be daring with the Fraser Canyon Rabbit Terrine served with Quince Mustard, Pickled Pemberton Veggies & Warm Potato Bread. Gamey terrine paired with the deliciousness of local condiments and earhty potato bread toasted to a light crisp. Rustic goodness!
I had the Warm Frisee Salad with Oyama Applewood Bacon Lardon, Okanagan Sherry Vinaigrette & Duck Fat Croutons! You can guess why I ordered it~~ The croutons were so yummy…but not enough on the plate for my liking 😉
Main course choice for some of us was the Wild Mushroom Crusted Wild Albacore Tuna Salad with Warm Fingerling Potatos, Kale & Autum Squash, and Wild Mushrooms. Perfect sear on that tuna, and paired with such hearty & warm components…it was a definite twist for Albacore everywhere!
The other main (the one I chose) was the Ginger Honey Glazed Fraser Valley Cornish Hen with Sweet Potato Gratin and Sage Jus. The hen? Juicy and soooooooo delish! Anyone who can make chicken skin this good HAS to be a cool person 😉 The gratin was a bit lacking…I would have liked the sweet potatoes to be more cooked and for there to be more prominent flavors…but that doesn’t mean I didn’t eat the whole thing!
Thomas Haas Dark Hot Chocolate? Uhhhhmmmm…Yes Please!! Julia and I just couldn’t resist ordering this to go along with the dessert to come 😉 Super creamy a darkly sweet without the bitterness tht comes with dark chocolate. So good!
Dessert was the Chef’s Selection of Petit Fours: Okanagan Pear Gelee, Vanilla Salted Thomas Haas Chocolate Brownie, Maple Bourbon Toffee. One thought? Not enough sauce! Other than the gelee the brownie and toffee needed some moisture (good thing I had the hot chocolate!). But overall, still a decent dessert 🙂
You know you are at the right place when they treat you each to a little
container of Bacon Sea Salt with the bill. Edible Canada? You have my heart
Mmmmmhhhhhmmmmm~ Yes, another successful group dinner! Bliss, Joy and Harmony….in my heart, my head and my heart!
