December 29th, 2011. Hebron C&C Cook-Off~~
It’s been a while since I’ve been able to attend a C&C retreat. Looks like I came to the right one…because day 2 was full of fun activites!! First up was a cook-off between the 4 teams.
It started with a mad grocery run on a small budget. Planning a cook-off meal and grocery shopping at the same timme? Pshhhhh. Please. I am the grocery queen.
Upon our arrival back at church each of the teams went into a battle mode as we hurried to create a winning meal for our special judges to try. Fun!!
Our judges included our senior pastor, a high-maintenance critic, and Hebron’s very own celebrity announcer 😉
OK, so our team did a Spicy Ground Sausage & Rice Lettuce Wrap with Zesty Avocado Cream and completed the meal with Toasted Pumpkin Tarts with Whipped Cream and Lemon Zest. Not bad for a $35 budget, one big pan, a portable grill and some seasoning!
Our strategy was to keep it on the light side by using fresh lettuce leaves as vessels while still producing great flavor and heartiness with the bold sausage and adding familiarity with rice. And dude, That avocado sauce was the bomb!!
How is it that we didn’t win?? We had dessert!!!
