September 2nd, 2011. Summer BBQ @ Buntzen Lake
To celebrate our office’s 3rd anniversary and to wrap up the end of the summer we planned a summer BBQ. We made it a half day at work, shut it down, picked up some essentials and headed up to Buntzen Lake.
The air was crisp, but the sun was still warm and we had an abundance of yummy food to tide us over. I kinda really love my work
Korean BBQ’s really are great because we bring pretty much everything to the table! Our marketing director’s wife broughht a variety of kimchi and other banchan (반찬) as well as some tofu and bean paste stew (된장찌재).
Boss’s family brought the protiens and as he started grilling our whole area was just engulfed by the sweet, savory, delicious aroma that only Korean galbi can emit. Even the dog from the group next to us couldn’t stay away from our grill!
I love 깻닢, and this home grown bunch from our marketing manager’s home was so incredibly tender and had a great kick of flavor! It’s the Korean version of the Japanese Shiso leaves, so it has a slightly bitter and herby flavor to it which goes so well with rice, galbi and that touch of spicy bean paste (쌈장).
Woot Woot!! Can’t leave out fat fluffy marshmallows for a BBQ!! Toasting marshmallows around the grill and enjoying the last remnants of the day’s sunshine..great way to end off the work week!
