August 24th, 2011. Work Lunch at Thai House
Boss and I were making the prowl all over North Vancouver all morning looking up previous and prospective clients. The sun was high and our stomaches were sending us hunger signals….so we walked into Thai House for a time-out.
There’s a tiny patio outside which is nice, while the interior is sexy and modern. We quickly looked over the lunch specials, made our order and waited anxiously.
Lunch specials come with a side of spring roll and a little salad….I would have appreciated if it had been like a little green papaya salad or something. You know, just a little oomph rather than just regular ol’ lettuce. Oh, and there’s 2 of us..so why only 1 roll???
Pra Lunm Long Shong: Boneless chicken stir fried with Thai peanut sauce on a bed of spinach. Nothing bad to say, really..I love peanut sauce and this one was a good balance of sweet and savory, the chicken was tender. and the rice was well cooked. I think the sauce may have been slightly bland….a bit more depth would have been nice.
Beef & Eggplant Thai Green Curry – Despite my dislike for coconut, I love Thai curry because of the creamy, delicious, cool coconut milk. I also used to dislike eggplant a LOT as a kid…but now I love it! This dish was again, good. Again, wanted a bit more depth of flavor.
Pad Thai: Stir fried rice noodles with shrimp,ground peanut, chili paste, egg and bean sprout. I was dissappointed. There was too much of a ketchupy taste for my liking. Otherwise the ingredients were all alright. The noodles were nicely cooked and the shrimp was not over-cooked…but again, the sauce…
In the end? Nice space, good portion-to price ratio, but I feel that there needs to be a bit more attention to detail and depth in terms of flavor.
