July 20th, 2011. Meeting The Girls For Dinner!
I had just met Rika’s friend Minji, but we got to know each other pretty quickly. She was already leaving to go back to Korea soon, so we all decided to get together for some girl time before she goes back.
For dinner we went to Jimoco Cafe & Pasta in Coquitlam. My sister and mom both had been raving about this place since I got back saying that it’s the best value-based pasta place in town. Apparantly the chef/owner is Korean so the food is Italian food made so that Korean people will like it. For me the best reason to go is that it’s 2 for 1. LOL!!
I never tire of Carbonara. Spaghetti alla Carbonara: Cream sauce, bacon, pasta…!! The dish was nice because the bacon was plentiful!
Koreans find Italian dishes to be too heavy so it’s no wonder that their favorite is the Linguine al Frutti de Mare. Seafood in tomato, cream or curry sauce. We got the tomato. The girls loved it! We appreciated that the seafood wasn’t just tiny little things but actual, substantial sized pieces
Since our first couple dishes are 2 for 1 anyways we said “What the heck, let’s do one more dish!” I’m all about the value, so it was a no-brainer to go for the 3-in-1 Parma Speciale! It comes with a smaller portion of Gnocchi in Bolognese, Linguine in Pesto and Beef Tortellini in Cream Sauce. Another good choice!
Well, it’s a nice enough neighborhood restaurant. The service is terse because it’s always busy and there’s only 1 or 2 servers trying to help everyone. The food is not amazing, but will do when you’re on a budget and just want something easy. I mean, compared to Basta Pasta in NYC, Jimoco really doesn’t push the envelope enough with their food even though they are doing this Italian/Korean fusion deal. That being said, you gotta love a 2-for-1 deal 😉
