September 30th, 2010. Post-Workout Dinner: Cactus Club Cafe
It’s a known fact: a post-workout appetite is the WORST for ruining your self-resolve in terms of diet. Now, I’m not on a diet, but after a workout I’m as hungry as if I were. After a productive workout session with Nabil we headed over to the newish Cactus Club Cafe in White Rock. Yes. I know. Cactus Club again. To be fair I tried completely different things this day!! It was like a totally different experience…c’mon~~!
I really like the decor of this location both inside and out. It definitely blends in with the whole White Rock persona….pacific chic 🙂
Rob’s Goat Cheese & Feta Flatbread: grape tomatoes, pesto, caramalized onion, arugula, balsamic glaze and maldon sea salt. I was surprised that the flatbread was as good as it was! Lots of flavors, good ingredients, and the flatbread was soft enough that it was easy to cut through, yet with the firmness to not flop around. Good choice, Nabil!
Sezchuan Green Beans (with side of rice). Call me a sucker..but i like sezchuan green beans. I’m sure this dish is not the one most servers will push, lol! The beans were cooked just right with good seasoning and the rice that came on the side was also cooked how I prefer, which is slightly dry.
My dinner: Creole Steak + Prawns – 9oz. certified angus sirloin rubbed with cajun spices. spicy creole butter, white wine sauteed creole jumbo prawns, mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The mashed potato was nice and creamy, the steak was perfect, and the prawns were a good size. And, really, who doesn’t love any kind of flavored butter? The only thing I have beef with is the asparagus. Seruously, who made you king of “seasonal vegetables”?? Never was fond of it as a kid and still not a fan today. Makes your pee smell
He had the Short Rib Sandwich – caramelized onions, beef jus and emmental cheese on toasted sourdough. It was a big sandwich! The bread was nice and toasty with great sourdough flavor, the meat was tender, loved the cheese and of course he got the chipotle aioli for the fries
Apple Galette – a classic combination of flavors; warmed granny smith apples, a hint of cinnamon on a flay puff pastry topped with vanilla ice cream and finished with caramel. Oh my…what a wonderful dessert to wrap it all up with! Loved the flakiness of the pastry, the rich, sticky, weight of of the caramel, the light vanilla ice cream and the fact that the apples still had a bit of bite to them. YuM~!!
I know, I know..another Cactus Club post..but it’ a diffeent location! Besides..it’s the bane of living in the suburb of a suburb…there’s nothing really interesting or new..and then even in the suburbs the best thing to be had late in the evening is Cactus Club. But the food is good, so whatevs!!
